Job requires participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating and maintaining pivots, draining excess water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops. This is a temporary job for 3 Farmworkers and Laborers located in Greenwood, MS. The work week is 56 hours, 9.33 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:20 pm. and 9.35 hours on Saturday. The pay is $14.53 per hour. Work begins 03/15/2024 thru 12/15/2024. Job duties include operating various farm equipment to prepare ground, plant, spray, irrigate, harvest, and transport crops to the elevator during harvest. Equipment that employees will operate includes but is not limited to tractors, tractors with various implements attached, sprayers, combine, cotton picker. Non CDL farm trucks will be loaded with agricultural products and driven on the farm and to storage facilities.
Employees will also perform manual labor such as laying poly pipe, getting water to flow in the right direction, and loading poly pipe; chopping weeds from time to time in fields when needed; grain bin sweeping at end of harvest time; shoveling while irrigating as needed; and washing and cleaning equipment when needed. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions.
